This weekend my partner treated me to a lovely weekend away as a Christmas present/anniversary gift at the Marriott Breadsall Priory in Derby. We booked through spa breaks for a package which included 1 nights stay, use of the spa facilities, a 30 minute treatment, dinner and breakfast.
On arrival we checked in at the desk where a helpful receptionist showed us a map and explained where the restaraunt, bar and spa facilities were. The hallways was beautifully trimmed up for Christmas and adorned with photographs, paintings and even the last will and testament of one of the old owners of the priory.
On arrival at our room a king size room in the old farm buildings we were honoured with a lovely card and box of chocolates from the desk staff. That personal touch was really heart warming.
Once unpacked we headed straight over to the spa where there were large changing rooms with lockers, showers and even hair dryers! The pool was the perfect temperature and not too busy. There were some children in the children’s pool but they were not noisy or disruptive in the least. The steam room and sauna were clean and met requirements and the hot tub was wonderful.
After about an hour in the spa we headed back to the room to shower and change and then to the tempo bar for drinks before dinner. Drinks were priced as to be expected for a hotel I had an archers and orange juice and Ged had a pint which came to about £11 in total. Small meals like pizza and burgers are also served in here. There were sports on the tv with the volume off and soft music played in the background.
We went down to dinner at 7:30 and were immediately seated and given a menu. I have a serious nut allergy but the staff were all over it straight away making me feel safe and looked after. The menu is a la carte and I started with smoked salmon with potato, Creme fraiche and caviar.
it was a completely new taste to me but I found I really enjoyed it! I followed this with the herb rubbed chicken which came with the largest chips I’ve ever seen! They were delicious though! Ged had the steak which he said was the best steak he had ever eaten!
The next morning went down to breakfast where once again the staff bent over backwards to help with my allergy and the chef even offered to make me fresh pastries in case of any cross contamination. It was self service but there was tea, coffee and a variety of juices, cereal, bread, toast, fresh meats and cheeses, English breakfast foods and waffles as well as a chef cooking fried eggs and omlettes fresh on request.
After breakfast we took a walk in the beautiful grounds, finished packing and then went off to the health spa for our treatment. The girls in the beauticians were very helpful checking that their oils were safe with my allergy. The massage was wonderful and afterwards we were directed to the relaxation room to hydrate and recuperate.
After coming out of the treatment we realised that Ged had left his phone in the room and we had already checked out. Reception were again very helpful allowing us to go back for it and advising that if it wasn’t found then housekeeping would hunt it down. Luckily we found it in the room!
Finally we relaxed in the tempo bar with a Starbucks until our lift home arrived. A truly perfect weekend. Thank you to the wonderful staff for making it so!
