Synopsis: Based loosely on the short story The Lady and the Tiger, Tiger Queen is the story of Princess Kateri heir to the throne of Achra, an ancient desert town set in an oasis that is running out of water. While the people revolt at the constant water restrictions, Kateri must battle potential suitors in the arena to prove her right to rule. When her final opponent is revealed Kateri knows she cannot win and in a moment of desperation she flees the city to seek out the water thieves called The Desert Boys and beg for their help. But what Kateri discovers out in the desert changes everything she knew about herself, her past and her future.
I enjoyed this a lot more than I actually expected to. Kateri was a great character who went through an amazing coming of age/personality transformation. The supporting characters particularly the desert boys and the villains were fantastic too. The story was interesting and kept me turning the pages and I managed to devour the whole book in only a few hours. One of the best retellings I’ve read recently.
