I decided to give this a go after seeing it on http://flaviathebibliophile.com
here’s some more info from the blog of the creator, Lia @ Lost in a Story:
Down The TBR Hole is a meme that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when you’re scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well that’s going to change!
It works like this:
• Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
• Order on ascending date added.
• Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
• Read the synopses of the books
• Decide: keep it or should it go?
I’m going to go for the first ten for my initial go at this meme. A lot of the books that I first added to my tbr are classics so I’m glad to be having a sort out of them!
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
This has been on my tbr for ages and it is a true classic, I watched, and enjoyed the film so I definitely still want to read this.
Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut
This one is still a definite as well I love retro sci-if so I 100% still want to read this!
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
I realised I had absolutely no idea what this book was even about I just added it because it was on a list of books you ‘should’ read. Having just read the synopsis and finding out it was about one of the World Wars, I really have no interest. Plus a lot of reviews say it’s boring! So this one is:
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith
I definitely still want to read this, it’s described as a coming of age story and I do like those! So this one is:
Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe
I was super unsure about this one, but having read some of the reviews I have decided it’s:
The Cider House Rules by John Irving
This still feels like something I want to read. So it’s:
Crime And Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
I’ve always been a bit afraid of this one because it’s so big, and it’s translated from Russian and I get worried it would be a bit like Les Miserables Which I hated! But I’m going to give it a try at least! So it’s:
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
Again this is another one which I always think sounds boring but when I read the synopsis and reviews it sounds really good! So it’s:
Lord of the Flies by William Golding
I don’t even need to think about this one. It’s definitely:
Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion
I’ve not really read anything in the way of zombie books so I’m still interested to see what this is like. Plus I own it so might as well read it!
So I managed to remove one book from my tbr which is a start I guess! I’m going to try and do this weekly going forward to see if I can really cut it down! My tbr now has 499 books!
